Day 1 - Pick up at Venice Marco Polo airport at 10.30 am for a lunch snack then a 3 hour drive to the pretty German speaking Tyrolean town of Innichen/San Candido stopping off en route in the renowned Prosecco wine area for a Vineyard walk and wine tasting (3 km/1.7 miles, 1.5 hr). 3 night stay at Hotel Orso Grigio (4 star). Dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2 - After a short drive we wind through the bucolic pastures of the Pusteria valley with panoramic views of the Sesto Dolomites past characteristic masi mountain farms with home-made Tyrolean specialities for lunch directly to our hotel and a cheese and local product tasting at a Tyrolean dairy (12 km/8 miles, 5 hrs). Free time to explore San Candido and dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 3 - We take a ski lift up to 2000 metres/6560 ft to the spectacular border ridge with views of both Austria and Italy before descending through the beautiful dairy pastures of the Nemes mountains with dramatic views of the varied mountain shapes of the Austrian Alps and the Dolomites (11 km/6.8 miles, 5.5 hrs) and lunch at a refuge just over the border in Austria! Dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 4 - An hour and a half drive takes us to the pretty Tyrolean town of Bressanone in one of the interesting Tyrolean wine regions for a two hour vineyard walk, a wine tasting at Bressanone Novacella Abbey and a visit to the abbey itself before continuing to our next hotel, stylish Hotel Ancora in Italian speaking Cortina d Ampezzo (4 nights) and a meal in the renowned restaurant of the hotel.
Day 5 - A 45-minute drive each way takes us to Misurina and one of the most famous walks in the Dolomites, the Tre Cime circuit at over 2000 metres/6560 ft throughout, with breath-taking and varied Dolomite views (8 km/5 miles, 4.5 hrs) and lunch en route at a high mountain refuge.
Day 6 - After a half day walk with magnificent views down to Cortina (6 km/4 miles, 3 hrs) and a picnic lunch the afternoon takes us to a cooking demonstration with a local, Michelin starred chef where we learn to make some of the interesting cross-border specialities of the area before dining at the restaurant.
Day 7 - A half-an-hour drive takes us to 2100 metres/6890 ft at Passo Giau for a spectacular up and down walk through high pastures, open mountain views and the pristine Croda da Lago lake with lunch at a mountain refuge on the lake (12 km/8 miles, 5 hrs) before driving back to the hotel for free time to explore Cortina and dinner at the renowned, Michelin starred Tivoli restaurant.
Day 8 - A 2.5 hour drive back to Venice airport.
- Hotel Orso Grigio, San Candido (3 nights) - an elegant, modern Tyrolean hotel in the centre of San Candido with a panoramic terrace
- Hotel Ancora, Cortina (4 nights) - a stylish hotel right in the middle of Cortina with individually furnished Tyrolean style rooms and an excellent restaurant
WHAT IS INCLUDED: lunches - ranging from mountain refuges and dairies to local delicacies en route - and dinners are included throughout. Two experienced tour consultants will look after your every need. Transport will be in minibuses and can be used as an alternative to walking where appropriate.

Isabelle Johnson has 15 years experience in creating, organising and leading small group walking holidays in Italy both for a top UK walking holiday company and independently. As an Oxford history graduate she has a special interest in the history of the Dolomites in general and of the First World War Dolomite Front in particular. Anna Vecellio del Monego
Born and raised in the area, Anna Vecellio del Monego knows the Dolomites, its footpaths and its hotels and restaurants intimately. She has wide ranging experience in organising and leading small group walking holidays with a top UK company and after many years working in hospitality and tourism in general she is now a really passionate holiday organiser 'insider'. A graduate of Verona University in languages and Tourism Management she has travelled and walked all over the world. She is currently a busy Deputy Mayor, looking after her home town. She is a certified Middle Mountain Guide of the Veneto Alpine Guide Association.
