Join Ilaria and I for the adventure of a lifetime in one of the world’s most breathtaking, bucket-list destinations and mountain ranges, the Dolomites!  

Accessible intermediate Dolomite walking through bucolic high pastures, forest tracks, mountain paths and dramatic spires and pinnacles, enjoying the varied cultures and culinary traditions of a fascinating and enchanting border area, the German speaking South Tyrol area of Italy and Italian speaking Cortina d’Ampezzo

Walking difficulty level: medium – gravel roads and mountain footpaths with reasonable gradients and some narrow steep sections. 4 to 7 hours hiking per day.

Day 1: Arrival in Cortina d’Ampezzo - Private transfer at 12pm from Venice Marco Polo airport to pretty Cortina d’Ampezzo, the queen of the Dolomites. Stay at Sport Hotel Barisetti, 7 nights, (D).

Day 2: Pratopiazza Plateau - After an hour drive we explore the bucolic high mountain pastures of Pratopiazza following gravel tracks and footpaths with panoramic views of the Sesto Dolomites and the famous Croda Rossa, past characteristic mountain dairies and huts with home-made Tyrolean specialities for lunch (approx. 8.5 km/5.3 miles, 330 metres up and down, 3.5/4 hrs). In the afternoon we stop for some free time around the enchanting jewel-like Lake Braies, (BLD).

Day 3: Passo Giau and Croda da Lago - A half-an-hour drive takes us to 2236 metres/7336 ft at Passo Giau for a spectacular up and down walk through high pastures, open mountain views and the pristine Croda da Lago lake with lunch at a mountain refuge on the lake, before continuing through enchanting forest to Ru Curto (approx. 12 km/7.4 miles, 350 metres up and 850 down, 5.5/6 hrs), (BLD).                                                                               

Day 4: Tre Cime circuit - A 40-minute drive takes us to Misurina and one of the most famous walks in the Dolomites, the Tre Cime circuit at over 2000 metres throughout, with breath-taking and varied Dolomite views (approx. 15.5 km/9.5 miles, 750 metres up and down, 6.5/7 hrs) with lunch in one of the traditional mountain huts, (BLD).

Day 5: Rest day, (BD).                                  

Day 6: Monte Elmo circuit – After a 50-min drive to Sesto, we take a ski lift up to 2000 metres/6560 ft to the spectacular border ridge with views of both Austria and Italy before descending through beautiful dairy Alpine pastures with dramatic views of the varied mountain shapes of the Austrian Alps and the Dolomites (approx. 9 km/5.6 miles, 500 metres up and down, 4.5/5 hrs) and lunch at a refuge just over the border in Austria, (BLD).

Day 7: Mount Lagazuoi – A half-an-hour drive takes us to Passo Falzarego, to walk along the foothills of the famous Tofana massif and uphill across the dramatic Lagazuoi plateau, to reach the wonderfully located Rifugio Lagazuoi at over 2700 metres for lunch, with some of the best views in the Dolomites and then descend by cable car (approx. 9 km/5.6 miles, 750 metres up and 150 metres down, 4/4.5 hrs). Dinner at a local restaurant, (BLD).

Day 8: Private transfer at 11.00 am to Venice Marco Polo airport, (B).
