The First World War Dolomite Front

The little known World War One Dolomite front, bitterly fought over between Italy and Austria from 1915 to 1917, is a world that can only fully be discovered on foot. Walk through well-maintained trenches, fortifications and tunnels and hear all about the battles that took place there. An Oxford history graduate, Isabelle has made the Great War in Italy an area of specialist interest.

Traditional Alpine food and wine

The Venetian Dolomites and the Pusteria Valley are the meeting point of several culinary traditions – Mittel European, Northern Italian and Alpine – offering everything from goulash soups to venison with polenta, canederli/Knödel to gnocchi, risotto and home-made pasta, apple strudel to panna cotta.

Exclusive Michelin starred restaurants in Cortina, serving creative variants of traditional dishes, family-run trattorias and farm-houses offering homemade food, mountain refuges and dairies filling you up with hearty walking fare – there’s something for everyone here.

The Venetian Dolomites is not a wine producing area but many neighbouring areas are. The renowned Prosecco sparkling wine zone is just round the corner and both the acclaimed South Tyrolean wine district with its prestigious aromatic whites and fruity reds and the exclusive Valpolicella red wine area are very close by.

We can help you choose a restaurant for the evening, organize wine tasting trips or evenings, local produce tastings in the mountain dairies as well as tailor-made cooking demonstrations.
